Alan Pardew has saluted his Crystal Palace side for their
2-1 win away at Anfield
over Liverpool today, feeling they went toe-to-toe with
the Reds.
Liverpool enjoyed the better of the possession from the
off at Anfield, however
fell behind when Yannick Bolasie took advantage of poor defending from the Reds
to fire Crystal Palace ahead in the 20th minute.
Alberto Moreno and Emre Can were both at fault and the winger drilled a shot
through a crowd of bodies and into the back of the net.
Liverpool suffered a blow with Mamdadou Sakho being
forced off in the 40th
minute, but the Reds equalised just two minutes later
when Philippe Coutinho struck.
The Reds pushed to find a winner in the second half,
however were struck by a
killer blow after Scott Dann headed into the back of the
net in the 82nd minute.
Pardew was delighted with his side's display and was
quoted as saying by the
BBC: "We came here with ambition. The worst thing that happened to us was
scoring, we then lost the ambition. Liverpool came on to us.
"We went toe-to-toe against Manchester United and got a draw, we went toe-to-toe with Liverpool and got the win.
"I thought Wilfried Zaha had one of his best games for
Crystal Palace. His defensive
work was important too. Wilf had to do a job on Philippe Coutinho and he did that. I
was very pleased for him" , Pardew continued.
"Sometimes it is about our own belief. We have been
unlucky in the last few games.
We have been good this year and started really well. We
need to make sure we capitalise on that.
"I promised the guys an extra day off so fair play to
them. They can book some flights now."
