With an aim to earn only Rs.10 lakh, Salman forayed into showbiz.

Post modelling, Salman ventured into films. His first film Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988) saw Salman in a supporting role.

But good fortune smiled when Salman was taken on board by Sooraj Bharjatya for Maine Pyaar Kiya.

The film won him his first Filmfare award in the Best Debut Male category.

In 1991, Salman rendered yet another hit in the form of Saajan. The film's music was a major hit of the times.

His 1994 flick, Andaaz Apna Apna did not fare well at the box office. But when the movie was released on TV, it went on to attain cult status. Salman's innocent act in the film was much appreciated.

Salman has worked with practically all actresses of the 90s. From Madhuri to Sridevi to Somy Ali to Sangeeta Bijlani to Neelam Kothari, the actor has shared screen space with all.

Apart from his film work, Salman was also 'in'famous for his string of affairs. Ever since his debut, Sallu has been linked with one actress or the other.

Salman's close ties with Sanjay Dutt have also been the talk of town. Sanju who's been the idyllic spoilt brat has been a close friend of Salman. No wonder the two are always surrounded with controversies till date.

Model-turned-actress Sangeeta Bijlani was Salman's first girlfriend. The two were also engaged to be married, but the relationship fell apart eventually.

Somy Ali was Sallu's second girlfriend. The two met through a common friend. As per gossip mills, Somy could not bear Salman’s drinking and abusive behaviour, and parted ways with him in 1999.

Salman Khan also apparently played cupid between Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt in the 90s.

The actor shares a close friendship with actress Karisma Kapoor with whom he worked in films like Jeet, Dulhan Hum Le Jaayenge amongst others.

While Salman managed to take off his Bollywood career, his brothers Arbaaz and Sohail did not gain mileage in showbiz.

Actor Govinda also stands as one of Salman's close friends.

Having worked in several films, Salman also managed to render some major flops like Judawaa and Auzaar.

With Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai and Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, Salman was back in form.

His supporting act in SRK's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai also won him an award that year.

Sallu's most hyped and glorious affair was with beauty queen and actress, Aishwarya Rai. The duo started seeing eachother during the shooting of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. But it was only in 2002, that the two broke-up.
